This weekend, over 100 million people will sit down to watch Super
Bowl XLV. If you’re part of this crowd, chances are you’re foregoing
physical activity to sit on the couch and consuming loads of chips, dip,
wings, and other diet un-friendly snacks.
How do I know this? Let’s take a look at some Super Bowl food facts:

How do I know this? Let’s take a look at some Super Bowl food facts:
- 69.6 million pounds of avocados are expected to be consumed.
- A whopping 450 million chicken wings are eaten during the game.
- We’ll keep popping those chips until 14,500 tons of are devoured.
- Super Bowl Sunday is the second largest day of consumption, following only Thanksgiving. And do you remember how many calories I said we consume then? Check it out: http://blog.robard.com/Robard-Weight-Loss-Blog/bid/46323/The-Turkey-is-Stuffed-That-Doesn-t-Mean-You-Have-to-Be
- Practice portion control: When the chips and dip are sitting in a big bowl in front of you to periodically grab, you don’t know (and therefore can’t control) how much you’re really eating. Grab a plate to help you estimate a serving size, stick with it, and don’t go back for seconds (or thirds, fourths, or fifths).
- Eat a healthy breakfast: Obviously this recommended every day, but eating a healthy breakfast will help you have more energy and feel more satiated come game time.
- Play a game within the game: Every time a team reaches a first down, do 10 jumping jacks. Every time a flag is thrown, do 10 curls (each arm) with the remote in your hand. Touchdown? Get up and do your best touchdown dance! Add a few different rules, get everyone at your party to play along, and you’ll all work at burning a few extra calories!
